Values and People’s Behavior
create the Culture of an Organization
The Problem..
Many of the problems faced by a company have their roots in the work environment and in the relationships of the people who work together.
With a closer look at these companies, one can see that there is no supportive framework of values, and an environment where employees feel safe to be themselves. Each person is themselves when they satisfy their needs by realizing their values.
What makes it so important to define a Value System in a Company?
It becomes the guide and basis for the ideal behavior of the company’s human resources among employees, customers, suppliers and external partners.
It attracts people who share these principles and values. These people, in whatever capacity, participate in the realization of the vision of the creator of the business and become co-creators.
It protects the vision and the people who participate in it from those who do not conform to the specific value system, ostracizing them.
It creates a safe working environment, where people can work together harmoniously, as they share the same values that determine the behavior accepted by all. An environment where coexistence and cooperation of all prevails and not the survival of one.
Our Values determine the standards of our behavior and are the criterion for what is important to us in life.
The Value System that governs each person is what determines the means they will choose to satisfy their needs.
It is very important for everyone to realize the Values they advocate, in their effort to satisfy their Needs.
Values are not just words that have a meaning. They are charged with emotions that we want to experience in our daily lives.
For a business that employs people, it is very important to have defined the values, based on which the people of this business behave and operate.
DEFINING THE BUSINESS VALUES
If you have already defined your company’s Value System and are still dealing with problematic behavior, it may be time to redefine it.
In this case, set a meeting with all the staff of your company to redefine your Value System. Alternatively, you can have a personal meeting with each person, but that will not be as fun.
When people participate in creating the Set of Values that will govern their behavior, they are much more likely to embrace these Values and behave accordingly.
The questions for finding our values:
What is very important for you to experience during your working hours?
What needs to happen so that you feel that you are experiencing what is important for you during your working hours?
What is very important for you not to experience during your working hours?
What needs to happen so that you feel that you are experiencing what is important for you not to experience during your working hours?
THE NEXT STEP
We recorded the Values that we want to govern our business. Based on these Values, we clarified the acceptable and unacceptable behavior of the people who participate in our business activity.
The creation or elaboration of the company’s Value System,
is the beginning, for creating a Safe Working Environment.
We create a framework with our Values numbered and place it in various visible places of the company, next to the framework with the Vision of our company.
But what is the next step to ensure that all those who participate in our business activities will operate and behave based on these Values, more and more?
REWARDING
In general, in our lives and in all areas of it, people become recipients of the behavior we reward much more. In our company, this is no different.
We can systematically evaluate each employee in two ways:
Based on performance and technical and professional skills
Based on human skills and behavior within the team.
If we want to strengthen the behavior that realizes the Values of our company, then it is obvious which evaluation we will give weight to.
Rewarding People who
behave in accordance with our Values,
strengthens our Company Culture.
